As our youngest citizens grow, it is everyone's job to ensure they do so in a quality care environment. Research shows that children in quality child care environments enter school ready to learn, are more successful in school and helps ensure a future quality workforce.

Child care is essential for the economy and for the family. Even though experts say the recession is officially over, families are still feeling the lingering effects. The slow recovery makes paying for child care difficult for many parents. Safe, affordable, nurturing child care allows parents to keep productive work schedules.

But quality comes at a price for some parents, causing them to make difficult choices regarding the care of their children. Many parents are choosing poor quality settings because it may be cheaper, but may also mean it doesn't meet the minimum requirements outlines by the Iowa Department of Human Services.
